Kereita Forest is one of the major forests in Kiambu County. It lies in Lari, about 60 kilometers from the Central Business District of Nairobi.
At the moment, this forest is managed by the Kijabe Environment Volunteers (KENVO) and it is arguably one of the best places to visit in Kiambu County.
In no particular order, here is a list of the best Kereita Forest Activities to do.
Paint Ball
Playing paint ball is one of the most fun games you can engage in at Kereita. In case you are not familiar with this game, it involves players eliminating their opponents using paintball guns that shoot pellets filled with paint.
Playing paint ball is fun because it gives one an adrenaline rush and it is good for building teamwork and creating bonds. Another good thing about paint ball is that it feels like a video game come to life. Ever played one of those shooting games on TV? Yeah, that is what paint ball feels like.
The charges for playing paint ball at Kereita Forest is KES 2,100 for adults and KES 1,900 for Kids. For this price, you will be given 100 paintballs to shoot.
Point to Note: For 50 additional paint balls, you will have to pay an extra KES 500
Mountain Biking
Mountain Biking also falls on our list of the Top 10 Kereita Forest Activities. In case you are familiar with riding a bicycle, this is a good activity for you to try out.
Asides from being a fun activity, mountain biking at Kereita is a recommendable activity because it lets you connect with nature, and the variety of terrains ranging from rugged mountain paths to smooth single-tracks.
The charges for renting and riding a mountain bike at Kereita Forest are KES 1,000 per hour for every adult and KES 800 for every child.
For KES 1,200, adults can rent and ride for 2 hours while kids can get the same offer for KES 1,000

Archery is another popular activity that can be done at Kereita. It involves using a bow to shoot arrows at a target. This game requires a lot of patience and focus. As much as it is more of a mental game it is also fun because you get to compete with others.
Playing archery is also fun because it gives one a sense of satisfaction especially after they hit the bullseye. Hitting this spot is very hard and whomever manages to do so always earns 10 points.
For KES 1,450 (adults) and KES 1,350 (Kids), you can play archery and shoot as many arrows for a period of 1 hour. Amazing, right?
Riding Horses
Horse riding is one of the most hyped Kereita Forest Activities.
On my last visit to Kereita, I was able to try out horse riding. I am more than glad I tried it because I had a time of my life. Imagine riding a horse while enjoying the stunning views served by long trees and lush greenery. Refreshing, right?
In case you have never ridden a horse, worry not, there are experts who are ready to teach you how to ride one. On average, it takes about 30 minutes to be taught.
One of the best things about the horses at Kereita is that they are well-trained and not hostile. Riding them is quiet easy.
The charges for riding a horse at Kereita is KES 2,100 for 30 minutes and KES 2,600 for an hour (adults).
As for Kids, the charges are KES 1,500 for 30 minutes and KES 2,000 for one hour.

Of all the activities I have done at Kereita forest, I believe that camping is by far the best. Asides from mountain biking and riding horses on my last visit to this spot, I was able to do some camping. The memories created during my 3 day camp are still fresh and I do not think am going to forget them any time soon.
Generally, Camping at Kereita Forest is a fun, engaging and popular activity in Kereita forest because you get to enjoy star-light nights, surround yourself in a peaceful atmosphere and engage in a galore of activities including hiking, wildlife watching and fishing in the forest streams.
Camping at Kereita is also highly recommended because you get to escape from the crowds in town, enjoy some peace and quiet. Kereita forest has secluded spots where you can enjoy privacy and intimacy with your loved ones.
The charges for camping at Kereita Forest are KES 1,000 per person. Children below the age of 4 years get to enjoy a discounted rate of KES 500.
Point to Note: All campers are required to pay a fee of KES 2,000 for 2 night guards who will be on standby through out the night to ensure there is no lurking danger.
Go for a Nature Walk
Nature walk is another activity that can be done at Kereita forest.
As much as I have not really explored or engaged myself in this activity, I would say that it is a good way of grasping some fresh air, boosting your cardiovascular health and strengthening your muscles.
Also, nature walks are a good way of reducing your stress, and boosting your mood. If you are looking to get mental clarity and reflect on something, I highly recommend you to go for a Nature walk at Kereita forest.

Footgolf is a new form of sport that was recently introduced to Kereita forest. For those who are not familiar with footgolf, this is a sport that combines the elements of football and golf. Normally, this game is played on a golf course and the goal is to score by kicking a foot ball into the oversized holes.
Playing footgolf is fun because lot of laughs often happen when one misses a simple putt or overshoots.
Another good thing about playing footgolf is that you get to socialize with new people, friends or co-workers. It brings you together and encourages you to work as a team.

Ziplining

Ziplining is the most popular activity to do in Kereita Forest. Thousands of people come all the way from Nairobi, Nakuru, Limuru and other neighboring places just to ‘fly in the air’ at Kereita.
At the moment, the zipline at Kereita is considered to be the longest in Kenya and Eastern Africa, It covers a distance of 2.2 kilometers.
One of the best things about ziplining at Kereita forest is that you will be able to enjoy stunning views of trees and animals below you as you zipline.
Another good thing about ziplining at Kereita forest is that the ziplines are made of strong cables. They are also smooth and enable zipliners to reach maximum speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
Last but not least, ziplining at Kereita forest is recommendable because they also have a junior zipline for kids as well as a night zipline.
The charges for ziplining the 2.2 kilometers zipline is KES 3,250 for adults and KES 2,750 for kids.
The charges for ziplining the 750 metres zipline is KES 2,100 for both adults and kids.

Explore Kereita Cave and Waterfall
Inside Kereita forest lies two hidden gems that most people do not know, they are; Kereita Cave and Kereita Waterfall.
The caves and waterfall are located deep in the forest on Gatamaiyu River. Getting here requires one to hike for at least 4 hours (2 hours to and 2 hours fro). You have to be an amateur or a professional hiker to get this far because the journey involves hiking up and down two steep river valleys. On my first visit to these spots, I hardly made it. I was extra tired
Hikers willing to hike to the Kereita cave and waterfall must hire guides for their own safety purposes. Kereita forest is home to several wild animals and sometimes the footpaths are not clear. You need some one who is familiar with the forest terrain.
